Heinz comes from Amstetten, Austria, where he works in the insurance industry. Heinz, good to see you, you look very well, especially your hair … It’s really very kind of you to take the time for this interview with MedClinics. Our readers are eager to hear about your experiences in Istanbul, so let’s get started right away.

When and why did you decide to have a hair transplant?

I work in sales, and it just looks better when you have hair. Besides, people always say that men aren’t vain, but that’s not quite true …

I’ve read that a full head of hair is supposed to be more successful with the ladies, and who doesn’t want that … After all, I’m a bachelor in my prime …

Why did you want to have the treatment abroad?

Quite simply, it was just too expensive for me in Austria and in Germany and Switzerland too, to name the German-speaking countries. So I decided to go abroad, where it’s much cheaper.

How did you come across MedClinics and what made you decide to book your treatment with us in the end?

I did a lot of research at the time and had many clinics send me offers. One of them was MedClinics, which I found online. Heike then called me and explained everything to me in detail on the phone. She was able to answer all my questions and we had a really nice chat. It’s different when you can speak in your native language and know that the other person understands you and knows your mentality.

Although the offer from MedClinics wasn’t the cheapest, I decided to accept it because they were really convincing, and I knew I could rely on them. I also brought 2 friends with me, who also had their hair done, so at least I wasn’t alone.

Please describe your experience with your patient consultant. Were you treated well? Were all your questions answered? Was someone always available?

There were no problems, on the contrary, my patient advisor is really nice and also gave me tips on what to do in Istanbul outside the hair transplant. She was always available, even outside normal office hours, and was able to answer all my questions. And if she didn’t know something, she asked right away and then called me back. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to meet in person because she broke her foot just before we arrived. Nevertheless, we had practically all-round support, there’s nothing wrong with that at all.

How did the hair transplation go? Can you please describe it briefly?

We drove to the clinic in the morning and were greeted directly by the coordinator, who guided us through the whole process. First the doctor came and marked on our heads where the hair was to be transplanted and also the area from which it was to be removed. Then we were shaved, because it’s better to do a transplant with shaving, the doctor can work better and more hair can be transplanted.

Yes, and then it started. First I had to lie on my stomach for a very long time because the hair was taken from the back of my head. That was a bit uncomfortable, but well, that’s just the way it is. My foot hurt, but that had nothing to do with the hair clinic.

Afterwards we had a break and then the hair was inserted.

We must have been in the clinic for around 8 hours in total. But we knew beforehand that it would take that long.

I was then given a lotion, a foam, which I had to dab on my hair every day for a total of 10 days. The next day we had a break and the day after that we went back to the clinic where my hair was washed for the first time.

After that, we were able to fly home again.

Was everything as you expected and as it was described to you beforehand?

Yes, everything went as I was told beforehand. I already knew the procedure of hair transplant from being told about it and knew that it would take a long time. Afterwards, you just have to be careful not to hit your head or anything. But that wasn’t a problem. And I shouldn’t expose my head to the sun either. But I had a small protective cap from the clinic, and I was in Istanbul in March anyway, so the weather wasn’t that great.

What was your experience of the hospital and the medical staff? Were there any communication problems?

The clinic is very modern and well-equipped and the people were all very nice. However, many of them don’t speak any foreign languages, not even English. There was one lady there who spoke German, but of course she couldn’t sit next to me for the whole 8 hours as she also had to look after other people. But she kept coming by and asking if everything was OK.

How was the aftercare provided by MedClinics? Did MedClinics continue to look in on you after the treatment?

Of course MedClinics also looked after me after the hair transplant, we are still in casual contact with my patient advisor, and we write to each other from time to time. Even when I had questions during the regeneration phase, they were always answered straight away. It’s a matter of patience, because the hair falls out 2–3 months after the hair transplant, which is of course not nice, but quite normal. That’s what I was told beforehand. But now I’m completely happy with my new hair.

Do you have any feedback for MedClinics in general? Would you recommend MedClinics to your family and friends?

Yes, of course I would and I already have. A few friends of mine have already contacted MedClinics and one is now coming next year to have his hair done.

MedClinics is very professional, competent and doesn’t make promises it can’t keep. They give open and honest answers. I can really only recommend them to my family and all my friends and acquaintances.

What would you recommend to someone considering hair transplant?

Don’t wait too long, it’s best to have it done as soon as you’ve decided. Find out exactly what you need to know about hair transplant beforehand. You should think carefully about which clinic you go to. There are lots of cheap offers, but I wouldn’t do that. It’s better to pay a bit more and then be treated in a good clinic where the hygiene is right and they have experience. After all, this is about health, not just hair. If something gets infected on your head, I don’t think that would be so great.

So it’s better to pay a bit more and get a decent clinic and good care in return. Hair transplant in Istanbul, Turkey is still much cheaper than in Austria. It’s best if people get advice from MedClinics …
