Penile Prosthesis Surgery

Genital Aesthetics

Penile prosthesis surgery, also known as penile implant surgery, is a surgical procedure to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) that has not responded to other conservative treatment options. It involves the insertion of a penile prosthesis, which is a medical device that allows a man to achieve an erection suitable for sexual intercourse.

The procedure is typically recommended for individuals who have severe ED and have not found success with medications, lifestyle changes, or other non-invasive treatments. Penile prosthesis surgery is considered a last resort after other treatment options have been exhausted.

During the surgery, the surgeon makes an incision in the penis and creates a space within the erectile tissues to accommodate the prosthesis. The prosthesis consists of inflatable cylinders that are inserted into the penis, a fluid reservoir typically placed in the abdomen or scrotum, and a pump that is implanted in the scrotum. There are different types of penile prostheses available, including inflatable and malleable (semi-rigid) devices.

Once the prosthesis is in place, the patient can manually activate the pump, which transfers fluid from the reservoir into the cylinders, creating an erection. After sexual activity, the fluid is returned to the reservoir, deflating the cylinders and returning the penis to a flaccid state.
