Orthopedics and Traumatology in Istanbul
Background of Dr. Hilmi Karadeniz
Dr. Hilmi Karadeniz studied medicine at Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine and completed his specialization in Orthopedics and Traumatology at Istanbul Training and Research Hospital.
Those years were not quiet academic years. Trauma cases were constant. Fractures from traffic accidents. Shoulder dislocations in the middle of the night. Knee injuries that could not wait until morning. Orthopedics in that setting teaches something simple: act when necessary, wait when appropriate.
Later, at Medical Park and Kolan Hospitals, the work shifted. Less emergency, more reconstruction. Degenerative joint disease. Ligament injuries. Patients who had already tried treatment elsewhere. Pediatric deformities that required follow-up rather than quick solutions.
He now works in his own clinic in Istanbul. Patients are evaluated there from the beginning. Imaging is reviewed carefully. Treatment planning is discussed directly. If surgery is necessary, it is explained. If it is not, that is also explained.
Sports Medicine – Dr. Hilmi Karadeniz
A large part of Dr. Hilmi Karadeniz’s work involves sports injuries.
Not only individual athletes. Also organized teams. Pre-season evaluations are carried out before competition starts. Previous ACL injuries. Chronic ankle instability. Shoulder laxity in throwing athletes. Overuse injuries that do not show clearly on the first MRI.
These checks are practical. The goal is to identify risk before the season begins.
During the season, injuries happen. ACL ruptures. Meniscal tears. Tendon injuries. Recurrent muscle strains. Joint trauma that looks minor but is not.
In these cases, the decision is rarely only medical. Timing within the season matters. The athlete’s long-term joint health matters more.
Arthroscopic surgery is frequently performed. ACL reconstruction. Meniscal repair. Shoulder stabilization. Ankle ligament repair. Rehabilitation is closely coordinated. Return-to-play decisions are not rushed.
An athlete may focus on the next match. The joint must last much longer than that.
Regenerative Treatment with Dr. Hilmi Karadeniz
Regenerative approaches are discussed in selected patients. In his clinical practice, Dr. Hilmi Karadeniz discusses regenerative approaches with selected patients.
Cartilage damage. Osteoarthritis. Meniscal injuries. Tendon problems. Ligament injuries. Especially in younger or active patients where joint preservation is important.
Stem cell based applications are considered case by case. Mechanical alignment, joint stability, and realistic expectations are part of the conversation. There is no standard indication that applies to everyone.
Sometimes regenerative treatment supports recovery. Sometimes structural correction is more important. Sometimes conservative therapy remains the better choice.
The decision is individual.
Dr. Karadeniz is also involved in some Orthopedics and Traumatology Education Programs, where regenerative techniques are addressed within a clinical framework.
Adult Orthopedics
Beyond sports medicine, adult joint problems are common.
Meniscal degeneration. Advanced knee osteoarthritis. Chronic hip pain limiting walking distance. Shoulder arthritis with loss of motion.
In many cases, Dr. Hilmi Karadeniz first evaluates whether arthroscopic surgery may be sufficient. In others, total knee, hip, or shoulder replacement becomes necessary.
Foot and ankle disorders are also treated regularly. Hallux valgus deformity. Post-traumatic deformities. Instability affecting gait. Hand surgery and joint arthroplasty are part of his operative work as well.
Imaging alone does not determine the decision. Symptoms and functional limitation matter more.
Pediatric Orthopedics
For Dr. Hilmi Karadeniz, children require patience.
Some conditions need to be caught early, simply because waiting can make things harder later. Congenital hip dislocation and clubfoot (pes equinovarus) are typical examples. In these cases, follow-up matters as much as the first visit. Feet and hips change as a child grows, so the plan is adjusted along the way.
Flatfoot (pes planus) is approached more cautiously. Many children outgrow it, and not every “flat” foot causes real problems. The question is usually function: pain, endurance, and how the child walks.
In children with cerebral palsy, the picture is different again. Treatment is planned around mobility level and daily needs, not around one isolated finding on an X-ray. Often, timing matters more than the technique itself.
Not every deformity progresses. Not every child requires surgery.
Surgical Practice
He sees patients in his own clinic in Istanbul.
If surgery is necessary, the operation is arranged through one of the hospitals he works with in the city. The location is chosen case by case – mainly depending on what the procedure requires and what the patient finds most practical.
Rehabilitation
Surgery is only one step. What happens afterwards often decides the final outcome.
Dr. Karadeniz’s clinic works with an in-house physiotherapy unit under the Sportoteam name. Five licensed physiotherapists are part of the team. They handle post-operative rehab, sport-focused return programs, and also conservative treatment for patients who do not need surgery.
Because the physiotherapists and the surgeon are in direct contact, the rehab plan can be changed when needed – for example after ACL surgery, tendon repairs, or joint replacement, where progress does not always follow a perfect timeline.
